Movie night.

Just got back from this. I enjoyed it a lot. Was curious as to how Gecko turned $100 mill into $1.1 bill in six months in a bear market... was a bit far-fetched but whatever. Was also curious why exactly the big reconciliation at the very end even happened, that was implausible. Please feel free to explain either of these things to me...

Anyway, if you liked the first one than this should be enjoyable for you and Charlie Sheen even makes an appearance.

  1. It's magic - I ain't gonna explain shit.

Now, seriously - don't expect logic and common sense from movies. They are not intended for this. Just sit back and watch the story - no need to analyze the details - focus on the big picture. Most movies are possible, because something from reality is missing - keep that in mind.

  2. Just two questions- is Shia LaBeouf tolerable and does he do his "N-n-n-n-no!" thing? I hadn't seen the original in years and forgot how much it focuses on Charlie Sheen. I need more Gordon Gecko this time around.

  3. I think the 'big picture' of this movie was executed quite well and was spot on, I appreciated it for sure. But I have a mind for detail and I don't like when they try to slip big things past the viewer. It's disrespectful and arrogant of the filmmakers. Though I doubt it was Stone's doing.

LaBeouf is tolerable. Definitely not his usual character. He is improving.

If you're a Gecko fan, then you'll get your fix - I can guarantee it.

  6. I saw the first one, it was really interesting and got me wondering about if it was ever possible for me to be successful in that line of work. Far-fetched, I know. Haven't seen this one, but I might. Followed.

  8. Thanks for the recommendation bro. I was a little leery of this being a cash-in sequel but I heard good things about it on NPR the other day and now this. Douglas has still got it and I can't wait to see him step into the shoes of his (arguably) most famous character.

  9. @C.J. Hyatt - Well this is Oliver Stone, and it's the first sequel he's ever done - definitely not a cash-in. And Douglas shines in this role, naturally.

@LeigtRutherford - A mate of mine is doing a masters in finance and wants to be an investment banker. It's not for the faint-hearted, that's for sure. I'm a clued-in guy who has an interest in this sort of thing, but what he talks about just goes completely over my head haha. If you think you have what it takes though, go for it. Just don't expect easy money.

  12. I haven't seen the original, is it worth watching that before the remake? I rate the acting of the Sheens, so I would have thought so.

  13. I'm very curious to see this movie, haven't gotten around to it.
The reason for my curiosity is that I've met ( and had as patients) many high powered, high responsability people.
And go figure, some of the most successful ones are sociopaths.
(Which isn't a surprise at all, seeing as they have the added benefit of not having a conscience)
